Screw you Kurt Cobain!

Kurt Cobain with one bullet you set music back thirty years, with one bullet you created the awful Foo Fighters and created emo rockers whining about their mothers not packing their lunches correctly. We knew Layne Stayley loved the needle too much, Eddie Vedder loved the Earth, The Chili Peppers loved the Lakers, it was only Nirvana that was going to be the music that defined our generation. My parents had the beatles and we are left with nothing. Thanks to you blowing your head off we have a generation of people in their mid to late twenties that think music sucks now. We are old people gomers complaining about how Rhianna sucks, panic at the disco is terrible, and who the fuck are the Jonas brothers. If you would have decided to stay things would be different. True rock and roll would still exist and Soundgarden and Rage Against the Machine wouldn't have broken up and I wouldn't have to write this blog making me look like a whining bitch... but I am... cause I am. You would be in your f'ing 40's still twenty years younger than the Rolling Stones and thirty away from Neil Young and they are still rocking. The Chili peppers and Nine Inch Nails have done an admirable job carrying the torch still rocking in their 40's, still sounding fresh, but not captivating a generation. So screw you Cobain your a legend but you would have been a living legend which is way fucking better as far I'm concerned.

Babe, this blog is amazing. If only Kurt would have lived we wouldn't have to suffer through the horrible music, if you can even call it music. God to think we have to listen to Hannah Montana what has the world come too. Asd who the fuck are the Jonas Brothers??? Come back Kurt come back!!!

I sat at my desk in total disbelief the day Kurt's death was announced. I felt like my best friend died. It definitely was a turning point in the music industry. All the record company execs scrambled to find replacement bands, bands that should probably never been signed. He left a huge void that has yet to be filled.

If Cobain came back today he'd take a look around and shoot himself again.

I couldn't have said it better myself! I feel the same way about Brad Nowell. It's a shame that they couldn't see the effect they had on people enough to continue their gift.

pandora- you might be right music sucks that bad.

mouthgirl- Brad Nowell is also in the same category as another guy who could have saved music. Sublime is one of my favorite bands ever as well and I kind of forgot he died cause I listen to them all the time still.

I never thought of it that way. Leave it to you to open my mind.

I agree with a lot of what you've written. Nirvana helped to spotlight some great bands that might have made it even bigger if he had stayed around a bit longer. Suicide is always a puzzler and always appears so selfish; I don't really understand it. Most people, I think, have had suicidal thoughts but the headspace that takes it to the final step is a whole different planet.

Well you know, you've seen all those f'n movies where one slight thing changes and everything changes -- but not in the way you think it would have. had all that not happened you may have gotten a few more good years and then maybe everything would have just spiraled out of control. not that i'm happy he killed himself (or that courtney killed him, whatever) i'm just saying that maybe things wouldn't have been that different. maybe nirvana wouldn't be quite so highly regarded had they had a different end.

tragedy adds a lot to history, and without it things wouldn't be the same.

so would ratm still be together? maybe. maybe not.

great post :)

i agree partly...however, no one is making you listen to the shit that is pumped out on the radio. i carried on liking the aftermath of grunge for a couple more years in the 90's, and then my musical taste progressed, as most people's should. i love the music i listen to and i'm finding new stuff everyday that is interesting and enjoyable. i don't even know when the last time i turned on the radio was...
